Welcome to the Laurel Highlands School District's Strategic Planning Webpage!

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requires school districts across the Commonwealth to develop strategic plans on six-year cycles. Because Laurel Highland's new strategic plan will be due to PDE in March of 2009, the time has come to launch our next cycle of planning.

Strategic planning is a dynamic process through which members of the school community work together cooperatively to chart the future direction of the school district. Through the planning process, a district mission statement is developed; instructional and operational goals are identified; activities and strategies for attaining goals are devised; and methods for evaluation and revision are developed.

A comprehensive, well-written strategic plan 1) reflects the contributions of community members, parents, students, and school district employees; 2) uses a variety of data to determine needs-based goals; and, 3) lays out a graduated course of action for establishing an educational system that is conducive to student success.

At this time, we are actively soliciting your involvement in the strategic planning process by asking you to complete an online survey that will assist our efforts in identifying the district's most significant needs. Click on the hyperlink below that best describes your role (e.g., parent, staff, community member/local business representative) to access the appropriate online survey.

Our early work will center on: 1) analyzing achievement, growth, and perceptual data; 2) identifying the district's most significant needs; and, 3) developing responsive, overarching goals which will drive the strategic planning process and infiltrate its six component plans.
